Over the summer, my husband and I like to get away without the kids. We have had several trips and each one has been incredibly different from the next. This trip was all about relaxation and peaceful surroundings. This Virginia Couples Getaway in the Mountains was everything we wanted and more.
Massage
This was a perfect start to our Virginia Couples Getaway in the mountains
As we began our journey down to Pearisburg, we started with a couples massage in Blacksburg. Massage is a great way to start any trip! We checked out Relax Blacksburg and it was an enjoyable experience for us both.
Shopping
Next, we found several new shopping areas added to Blacksburg with the growth of Virginia Tech. After the massage, we did a little shopping in some of the newer strip malls and bought books for our getaway. I especially enjoy stopping in Dick’s Sporting Goods when I have the chance!
Inn at Riverbend
My husband found The Inn at Riverbend, an adorable B & B in Pearisburg for us to stay in and it was perfect.
First, the location is for a couple that just wants to get away from it all. There is nothing around the property, just peaceful views of the river in the mountains and the occasional deer that walks through.
Second, the rooms are cozy and inviting. We stayed in the Palisades room and it was a dream location because the room is on the corner of the building and has a semi private deck. There were a couple of chairs out there and we spent many hours reading and enjoying the peace. This room also included a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom where you can soak after a long day enjoying some nature.
This is so great for a calm Virginia Couples Getaway
We also enjoyed the free sodas and water in the lobby and the amazing breakfast. In addition, the owners were hospitable and even had fresh baked cookies in the afternoon.
Lastly, there were several quiet sitting areas throughout the property. The large decks had cozy chairs and there were libraries around a fireplace inside. To sum up, it really is a space for peace and tranquility and we had a hard time making ourselves leave to explore.
Movie and Bowling Alley
Not too far away, there was a B & B Theater which is not a surprise due to the proximity to Virginia Tech. These theaters have IMAX movies, bowling and a restaurant/bar all in the same building.
This was a perfect chance for us to watch a movie without the kids. We went in the summer, during the week, in the middle of the day so we basically had the place to ourselves.
Hiking the Cascades
When I am down near Blacksburg, I know there is a gorgeous hike to the Cascades and I love to do this one! If you’ve seen my other hiking posts, you know we love getting to waterfall hikes and this one is a true gem.
The Cascades is a 4 mile total hike (out and back) to a 66 foot tall waterfall. This waterfall is breathtaking and the hike itself could be considered moderate. We took our time to just enjoy ourselves but it can be done with a quicker pace, just watch out for fallen branches and new obstacles when you go.
A Virginia Couples Getaway isn’t complete without a beautiful hike
Of course we had to put our feet in the water but no matter when you go, it is freezing! The rocks are also slippery. For example, we went out but we had to be careful because our feet were numb and it was hard to keep our grips on the rocks to get our picture.
Eating during your Virginia Couples Getaway
Cascade Café
After we finished our morning hike, we were hungry and stopped at the Cascade CafĂ©. This is a perfect place if you want to get a bite after going on the hike. You’ll be amazed how much variety this place has and you’ll enjoy sitting down to enjoy your meal.
The Farmhouse
Another great restaurant in the area is the Farmhouse in Christiansburg. Patrons dine in a converted barn in cozy nooks on delicious dinners. We enjoyed some wonderful seafood on our night there.
This is a very popular date spot and local restaurant so make sure to get reservations!
Dinner at the Palisades Restaurant
Lastly, we decided to try out the Palisades Restaurant for our last dinner as we had heard it was a great experience. This historic building in Eggleston was the town’s general store and now it is an award winning restaurant.
The service was great and so was the food. For example, I had an amazing BBQ Chicken Pizza. We had so much food we had to take half of it back to our B & B to snack on in the evening. We really didn’t want to let it go to waste!
