Myrtle Beach State Park

Obviously, we need to start with the beach! The whole reason you go to Myrtle Beach is to see the ocean and feel the sand in your toes. When you visit Myrtle Beach, there are many things that you can do to enjoy the outdoors.

Fishing is a popular way to enjoy the beach and there are several fishing piers. Note that if you fish from the pier, you don’t need a license but there is a daily fee.

There are campsites and cabin rentals available for guests that have multiple bedrooms. Also, you can find picnic shelters that can be reserved, or free if no one is using it that day.

A great way to learn about the area, would be to visit the Nature Center. The whole family could learn about native animals and habitats. Also, there are a couple easy trails that can be found here.

Broadway at the Beach is perfect for Myrtle Beach family fun

Broadway at the Beach is a large entertainment complex in Myrtle Beach with many shops, restaurants and experiences catered to every age. This attraction is made up of a large boardwalk that goes around the entire complex. It’s a fun way to check out some shops, have a meal and do some thing together as a family. Another perk, there is no fee to walk around the complex.

This area is home to the Ripley’s Aquarium and Wonderworks which are perfect for those rainy days! Also, you can’t miss the Pavilion Nostalgia Park broken up into the Fun Park and Action Park. There are so many things to do, guests may end up coming a couple of times to see it all.

Family Kingdom Amusement Park

This seaside amusement park has been around for years for families to enjoy. Family Kingdom is a free admission amusement park that works on the ticket system. Guests can choose to pay for a wristband if they feel it is worth the investment based on how many rides they want to enjoy but it can be expensive.

In fact, the park boasts having twelve family rides and nine thrill rides. Family Kingdom is home to the Swamp Fox roller coaster which has been in service since 1966 and it gives the park that iconic seaside park vibe and appearance. Personally, I really enjoy seeing this park lit up at night but it would be less crowded on the early side.

Carolina Opry Theater

The Carolina Opry Theater is described as the first variety show in Myrtle Beach and this large venue can host up to two thousand beach goers at once to enjoy the show.

Shows are a two hour long variety of music, comedy and dance the whole family can enjoy. There are many award winning artists in the show that have been seen on the Voice and America’s Got Talent. Make sure to check this deals page before you go to save some cash for your trip.

Myrtle Beach SkyWheel

You can’t drive down Ocean Boulevard without noticing the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel as it stands over 200 feet tall and gives amazing panoramic views of the town and shores below. Nightly, it brightens the sky with light patterns that can be mesmerizing.

The gondolas are climate controlled and there are several different packages you can purchase. The basic ride is 4 times around which takes around 12 minutes. I recommend purchasing tickets online ahead of time so you can avoid the wait when arriving. Kids under 2 ride for free but need to get a pass when they arrive. Mini Golf is perfect for Myrtle Beach family fun

One of my favorite things to do as a kid at the beach, was go check out all the mini golf courses but not having to choose. Myrtle Beach has over 50 to select from! There are many up and down the grand strand to suit whatever mood you are in.

My favorite one is Mount Atlanticus! It is right off the main road and the theming is an adventure. If you make a hole in one on the last hole, you win free games for life!

Most courses are cheaper during the day or offer coupons in the Monster Coupon Book. But make sure to wear sunscreen and stay hydrated.

Myrtle Beach Family Fun on the Boardwalk

Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and Promenade

The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and Promenade is a great place to check out if you want to have a nostalgic walk down the beach. The Boardwalk has just been refurbished and there are many restaurants along the path so you can eat by the sea. We enjoy going to Land Shark for the fun atmosphere and ability to people watch.

The Myrtle Beach SkyWheel is attached to Land Shark and there are several ice cream shops and sweet shops a short walk away.

There are also a few arcades and we love having a chance to play the games by the ocean. Specifically, there are some old school games that are hard to find anywhere else. Compete against each other or together and pool tickets for a prize.

Don’t forget the Gay Dolphin for Myrtle Beach family fun

One last place to visit here is the Gay Dolphin Gift Shop. This shop has been in Myrtle since the 40’s and has the most random things in it. It has a wide selection of sea shells, apparel, home dĂ©cor, collectibles, jewelry, sharks teeth, and seven photo opportunities ranging from a life sized Yeti and Elvis to Egyptian guardians and pirates. Overall, you must see it to believe it, just don’t lose the kids!

Brookgreen Gardens

Brookgreen Gardens is just a little south of Myrtle, but it is well worth the drive. This beautiful garden oasis is a serene place to see native plants and animals. The kids will love the small zoo, butterfly garden and storybook garden.

On the other side of the gardens, there are beautiful carved sculptures throughout. They are seamlessly woven through the terrain and are a perfect compliment to the surroundings. There are discount tickets available and a ticket is good for 7 days but it is a little bit of a drive.

EdVenture Children’s Museum

The EdVenture Children’s Museum is a great tool to have if you have a rainy day and some wild kids. This museum is geared towards younger kids (0-10), but has many activities that will keep them busy.

Kids can pretend like they are at the grocery store, use a flight simulator or just watch scarves go through wind tunnels. This could keep the littles busy for a while.

Ripley’s Aquarium

Ripley’s Aquarium is located at Broadway at the Beach. This aquarium is a great attraction to visit while you’re at the beach as kids will want to see sea creatures up close. They recommend at least 2 hours but you will probably need longer.

There are special packages where groups can have animal encounters or even spend the night! Also, there is a shark tank you walk through and several exhibits where kids can touch sea life (gently). Here is a link to a discount code to save some money.
