Disney started using the new Disney Genie Plus system not too long before our visit. We weren’t sure if it would be worth it to pay an extra $15 per person to skip lines. In the end, we decided to try it out for one of the parks where we thoughts we would run out of time.
Here are some answers to some common questions and I hope this helps you make a more informed decision.
What is Disney Genie Plus?
Disney Genie Plus is the replacement to the Fast Pass that used to be used in Disney. Fast Pass was included with a ticket purchase and the Genie Plus is extra.
Genie Plus allows guests to get time slots (Lightning Lanes) for certain rides and not have to wait in the line. Once purchased the morning of a park visit, guests can pick their first pass for the day. You keep adding on as the day goes on. Guests will enter through the Lightning Lane Entrance. There is a two hour window between ride bookings.
The slots fill up through the day, so it is recommended to get the ones that fill up first and then add on as the day goes on.
How Much is Disney Genie Plus?
Genie plus costs $15 per person, per day that a guest uses it. If you have 4 people in your group, you are looking at adding $60 to the day if you use this add on.
How do I buy Genie Plus?
The morning of your park visit (7 am), guests have an option to purchase Genie Plus. Do not wait until later in the day or most ride reservations will already be gone.
From the My Genie Day or My Day page, scroll to the bottom of the screen and look for the Take Your Day to the Next Level banner. Tap Get Disney Genie+ Service and after you have made your purchase, you may start making your first reservation.
Is Genie Plus Worth it?
Genie Plus is worth it if you don’t have a lot of time on your trip or only have one day in a ride heavy park. For example, the Magic Kingdom has so many rides and attractions, it seems impossible (it is) to get everything you want see done in one day.
If you are worried all you will be doing at Disney is standing in line, this might be for you. Using Genie Plus allowed us to skip longer lines and make a reservation to come back later.
When you go to Disney, you want to get the most time in attractions in as possible. This will help make sure you get to most of the things you want with fewer lines.
What are the best parks for Disney Genie Plus?
Magic Kingdom was the only park we used Genie Plus and we still didn’t get to everything we wanted! It’s just so full of rides and attractions. We might need about 3-4 days in that park to get to it all and that still might not be enough. However, Genie Plus allowed us to get the most out of our limited time in the park.
While it may be beneficial in the other parks, there are not nearly the number of attractions in the other park to merit the expense.
How many Genie Plus rides can I do per day?
You can do as many Genie Plus rides a day as you can fit in. There is a two hour window between bookings, so make sure to set an alarm every time you book something and get another one when it goes off. We were able to do 6 reservations and we had another we had to skip.
Keep in mind, the Magic Kingdom can be open as long as 16 hours and this allows more time for rides and reservations.
