Pumpkin Spice Oatmeal is a breakfast I came up with on a cool fall morning. The pumpkin spice flavor warmed me up and the protein and carbs fueled me for my workout.
Why you’ll love this recipe
This recipe only takes a few ingredients and is a great way to warm up on a cold morning. Pumpkin Spice Oatmeal is a great breakfast for the morning athlete inside that still wants a delicious, fall flavor.
How to make Protein Pumpkin Spice Oatmeal
You only need a few ingredients: quick oats, Quest Salted Caramel protein powder, pumpkin spice, canned pumpkin and your choice of sweetener. I prefer two Stevia packets. You could use any protein powder you have, but I really like how the Salted Caramel complements the pumpkin flavor. This cinnamon one would probably be amazing, too!
First, measure out your oats. I start with 40 grams of oatmeal and then I put in a cup of water. Similarly, you could always use milk if you like your oatmeal thicker and little more filling, just make sure you have a deep, microwavable bowl. I love my bowl I got from HersheyPark!
Next, place bowl in the microwave for about a minute and a half. I always have to watch mine because sometimes it will overflow into the microwave, and that’s not the best way to start your morning.
Add your sweetener of choice once the oats are cooked. Next, you’ll add a half serving of pumpkin which is about 60 grams. Save the rest for another recipe or if you want this a few mornings a week!
Then, add a half scoop of the protein powder, which is about 14 grams. Finally, add in your pumpkin spice, a liberal sprinkle and mix.
Lastly, mix all the ingredients together and you have your Pumpkin Spice Oatmeal! Each bowl has 17 grams of protein and 3 grams of fat and if you wanted to add healthy fats, pecans or almonds would be great. I really enjoy the Lily’s Stevia sweetened chips, too. The best thing about oatmeal is how customizable it is.
FAQs
How can I add protein to my oatmeal without adding protein powder?
There are a few ways you could do this. Some people swear by adding in some egg whites, stopping half way through the microwave cycle to stir and finish cooking. Another way you could add protein would be adding some yogurt or even cottage cheese to your oatmeal, but you may want to do an overnight version.
Can I add protein powder to my oatmeal?
Yes, and we do in this recipe. Also, you can really change the flavor profile if you switch up your powders.
