There are certain recipes that we feel fit the weather change. This Shrimp Steamer Pot with Sausage is one of those recipes as it makes us think of the beach. Served with some bread or hushpuppies, this meal will take you right to the coast.

We decided to try out a new beach a few years ago. Our travel plans had been cancelled and we really wanted to go on a trip. We decided to visit the Southern Shores in the Outer Banks. The time we spent there was wonderful in the house we rented. There were only a couple of problems, we weren’t going to restaurants at the time and the weather was only good about half the week.

My parents ended up joining us for a couple of nights at the end of the week and we were so glad for their company. The last night we were there, we were trying to figure out what we could do for dinner and decided to try out a Shrimp Steamer Pot for the first time. We had seen this on many of the to go menus and it was incredibly expensive! There were already steamer pots in the house so we decided to try for ourselves.

We went into Duck to a fresh fish market and bought some shrimp and in the parking lot there was a produce stand. There we bought sweet corn, red potatoes and an onion.

When we got home, we threw it all together and had an amazing dinner for the beach. It was a great memory and I always think of that when I make of this meal.

Also, this meal is high protein and low fat. I use turkey rope sausage to cut back on fat and add delicious flavor. Shrimp is a high protein food as well.
